System Page The System Page shows you the current GPS mode, Compass mode, Altimeter 'Auto Cal' mode, and Software Version. You can choose from four modes of GPS operation: Normal, WAAS, Battery Save, or Demo (Demonstration). • Normal Mode - 'NORMAL' mode means the GPS is active and running whenever the unit is powered on. • WAAS Mode - WAAS is designed to improve the overall accuracy and integrity of the GPS signal. 'WAAS' mode utilizes more battery power than regular mode. For more information, see "What is WAAS?" on Page 56. • Battery Save Mode - 'BATTERY SAVE' mode optimizes the GPS receiver's power consumption. • Demo Mode - The 'DEMO' mode is designed to demonstrate the features and functions of the eTrex Summit inside a closed building where satellite reception is not possible. There is no navigation possible in 'DEMO' mode, but you can simulate many fo the unit's functions. If you select the 'DEMO' mode, a window appears asking you to verify that you want to turn the GPS receiver off (this does not power off the unit). To do so, press ENTER. To select an operating mode: 1. From the MENU Page, highlight 'SETUP', then press ENTER. The SETUP Page appears. 2. Press the UP or DOWN button to highlight 'SYSTEM'. Press ENTER. The SYSTEM Page appears. 3. Press the UP or DOWN button to highlight 'GPS'. Press ENTER. The Option List appears. 4. Press the UP or DOWN button to highlight the desired mode and press ENTER. Setup Page System Page Turn the GPS receiver to 'BATTERY SAVE' mode to conserve power when using as a compass or developing a pressure trend. When the unit is in 'DEMO' mode, a warning will appear indicating that the GPS receiver is turned off. 51
