Enabling the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent The Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent is part of the BIOS code in the computer. You can use it to configure the network as a startable device, and you can customize where the network startup option appears in the startup sequence. You enable and disable the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Boot Agent from the Configuration/Setup Utility program. To enable the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet boot agent, complete the following steps: 1. From the Configuration/Setup Utility main menu, select Devices and I/O Ports and press Enter. 2. Select Planar Ethernet and use the Right Arrow (→) key to set it to Enabled. 3. Set the network-planar device as the first startup device under the Startup Option → Startup Sequence Options menu choice in the Configuration/Setup Utility program. 4. Select Save Settings and press Enter. Configuring the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller The Ethernet controller is integrated on the system board. It provides an interface for connecting to a 10-Mbps, 100-Mbps, or 1-Gbps network and provides full duplex (FDX) capability, which enables simultaneous transmission and reception of data on the network. If the Ethernet port in the computer supports auto-negotiation, the controller detects the data-transfer rate (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or 1000BASE-T) and duplex mode (full-duplex or half-duplex) of the network and automatically operates at that rate and mode. You do not have to set any jumpers or configure the controller. However, you must install a device driver to enable the operating system to address the controller. LSI Logic Configuration Utility program Use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to configure and manage redundant array of independent disks (RAID) arrays. Be sure to use this program as described in this document. v Use the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to perform the following tasks: - Perform a low-level format on a SAS hard disk drive - Set SAS protocol parameters In addition, you can download an LSI command-line configuration program from http://www.ibm.com/support/. When you are using the LSI Logic Configuration Utility program to configure and manage arrays, consider the following information: v The integrated SAS controller with RAID capabilities supports: - Integrated Mirroring (IM) with hot-spare support (also known as RAID 1) Use this option to create an integrated array of two disks plus an optional hot spare.
