Diskette drive problems v Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem is solved. v See the parts listing in the Problem Determination and Service Guide to determine which components are customer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units (FRU). v If an action step is preceded by "(Trained service technician only)," that step must be performed only by a trained service technician. Symptom Action The optional diskette drive activity LED stays lit, or the server bypasses the diskette drive. v If there is a diskette in the drive, make sure that: - The diskette drive cables are correctly and securely connected. - The diskette drive is enabled in the Configuration/Setup Utility program. - The diskette is good and not damaged. (Try another diskette if you have one.) - The diskette is inserted correctly in the drive. - The diskette contains the necessary files to start the server. - Your software program is working properly. v To prevent diskette drive read/write errors, make sure that the distance between monitors and diskette drives is at least 76 mm (3 in.). If the problem remains, replace the internal diskette drive (see the Problem Determination and Service Guide on the IBM System x3400 Documentation CD).
