Chapter 3 - Use the Scanner For near or close-in scanning distances of 30 cm (11.8 in) or less, use the laser pointer as a guide and aim slightly to the right of the center of the bar code. Make sure the illumination beam covers the bar code you are trying to decode. For standard and long range scanning distances of 30 cm (11.8 in) or more, use the laser pointer as a guide and aim toward the middle of the bar code.
