English ► Pull the starter grip quickly and allow the starter rope to rewind several times until the engine fires and shuts off. ► Do not pull out the starter rope to full length and do not let the starter grip snap back. Guide it slowly back into the housing so that the starter rope can rewind properly. ► If the engine does not shut off: Set the Master Control Lever to position so that the engine does not flood. The engine will shut off. ► Start the engine, 14.4. 14.4 Starting the Engine WARNING ■ Never operate your chain saw if it is damaged, improperly adjusted or maintained, not com‐ pletely and securely assembled or not func‐ tioning properly, 5.4. To reduce the risk of personal injury, always wear proper clothing and protective apparel, including proper eye protection, when operating your chain saw, 5.3. Before starting the engine: ► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing. ► Stand upright. ► Always hold and operate the chain saw with your right hand firmly on the rear handle and your left hand firmly on the front handle. Always hold the chain saw with two hands in this manner, whether you are right-handed or left-handed. The Master Control Lever (3) will move to the run position and the engine will settle down to idling speed. ► If the engine does not start after a few attempts, follow the pre-starting procedure ( 14.3) and try starting the engine again. ► Disengage the chain brake, 12.2. Your chain saw is ready for operation. ► If the saw chain rotates when the engine is idling, adjust the idle speed, 22.2. NOTICE ■ Accelerating the engine while the chain brake is engaged or the chain is otherwise blocked (i.e., not able to turn) increases the load and will cause the clutch to slip continuously. This may occur if the throttle is depressed for more than a few seconds when the chain is pinched in the cut or the chain brake is engaged. To reduce the risk of overheating and damage to important components (e. g. clutch, polymer housing components), always disengage the chain brake before accelerating engine and before starting cutting work. The only excep‐ tion to this rule is when you check operation of the chain brake, 16.1. 15 Shutting Off the Engine 15.1 Shutting Off the Engine 0000097428_001 1 4 ► Engage the chain brake (2), 12.1. ► Remove the chain scabbard. ► If the chain saw is equipped with a manual fuel pump (1): Depress the manual fuel pump at least 10 times. ► Press down the throttle trigger lockout (5) and squeeze the throttle trigger (4) at the same time. ► Set the Master Control Lever (3) first to posi‐ tion and then to position . WARNING ■ The saw chain will continue to rotate for a short while after the throttle trigger is released. To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the moving chain. To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended activation or unauthorized use, shut off the engine, ensure the chain has stopped and engage the chain brake before walking with the saw or setting it down.
