Handling the Original Document This section describes how to load the original document on the Platen Glass or the ADF. Original Document Requirements The original documents you load on the Platen Glass or the ADF for copying, scanning, or faxing must meet these requirements: Document type Size (W x L) Quantity Thickness Weight Platen Glass ADF z Paper documents z Photographs Multipage documents of the same size, thickness, and weight z Books z Documents that are not suitable for the ADF Max. 8.5 x 11.7 inches / Max. 8.5 x 14.0 inches / 216 x 356 mm 216 x 297 mm Min. 5.8 x 5.8 inches / 148 x 148 mm 1 sheet z Max. 30 pages of A4- or Letter-sized sheets (20 lb / 75 gsm paper), up to 0.16 inches / 4 mm in height z Max. 10 pages of Legal-sized sheets (20 lb / 75 gsm paper), up to 0.08 inches / 2 mm in height z 1 sheet for sizes other than these Max. 0.39 inches / 10 mm 0.002 to 0.005 inches / 0.06 to 0.13 mm - 13 to 24 lb / 50 to 90 gsm Loading Original Documents Load originals to copy, scan, or fax on the Platen Glass or the ADF. Note z Make sure any glue, ink, correction fluid, or the like on the original document is completely dry before loading it on the Platen Glass or the ADF. However, do not load glued originals in the ADF even if the glue is dry, as this may cause paper jams. z Remove all staples, paper clips, and the like before feeding the document. z Load Legal-size documents in the ADF. z Do not load the following types of documents in the ADF. They will jam. - Wrinkled or creased paper - Curled paper - Torn paper - Paper with holes - Glued paper - Carbon paper or carbon-backed paper - Surface treated paper - Onion skin or thin paper - Photograph or thick paper 6 Before Using the Machine
