Loop Initialization Diagnostic

Loop initialization is initiated by a LIP and is properly completed with a CLS. The Loop Initialization Diagnostic can be modified to detect improper loop initialization through the Network Configuration tab. This can be accomplished by using one of the two criteria listed. Once active, the Diagnostic goes though a step-by-step process to determine which devices are the cause of improper loop initialization. Once the diagnostic has determined the culprit, it will then disable the device port involved, permitting the problem to be repaired. Figure 2-11. Loop Initialization Diagnostic screen There are two independent criteria that will trigger the Loop Initialization Diagnostic when limits are exceeded. One is Loop Down Duration. The other criterion is Initialization Frequency, which has three separate sub-parameters. Loop Down Duration is the number of consecutive seconds that the loop is unable to initialize before the Loop Initialization Diagnostic is triggered. If a LIP is detected and a CLS is not detected within the specified Loop Down Duration period, the Loop Initialization Diagnostic will be spawned.

Loop Initialization Diagnostic
The Loop Initialization Diagnostic is activated whenever a loop cannot ini-
tialize properly. Loop initialization is initiated by a LIP and is properly
completed with a CLS. The Loop Initialization Diagnostic can be modified to
detect improper loop initialization through the Network Configuration tab.
This can be accomplished by using one of the two criteria listed. Once active,
the Diagnostic goes though a step-by-step process to determine which devices
are the cause of improper loop initialization.
Once the diagnostic has determined the culprit, it will then disable the device
port involved, permitting the problem to be repaired.

There are two independent criteria that will trigger the Loop Initialization
Diagnostic when limits are exceeded. One is
Loop Down Duration.
The other
criterion is
Initialization Frequency,
which has three separate
sub-parameters.
Loop Down Duration
is the number of consecutive seconds that the
loop is unable to initialize before the Loop Initialization Diagnostic is
triggered. If a LIP is detected and a CLS is not detected within the
specified Loop Down Duration period, the Loop Initialization
Diagnostic will be spawned.
