This is done via the RS-232 serial port. See the Compaq Hub 12 Management Module installation instructions. 3. If the IP address is valid, verify that the connection to the device has been established by using the Packet Internet Groper (PING) command (see the "PING a Device" section in this chapter). If pinging shows a device response, continue. If not, check the physical connections. 4. Check to see if anyone has changed the get/set Community Names on the device and retrieve the current get/set SNMP Community Names. The RS-232 port on the device will give information on the current settings. See the Compaq Hub 12 Management Module installation instructions for more information on the RS-232 port. 5. If the above steps have been followed in the correct order and the most current SNMP get/set Community Names are correct, try starting up HMU again. If that fails, try setting the get/set Community Names back to the defaults. Fibre Channel Topological Discovery Failure It is possible for Fibre Channel topological discovery to fail. When that happens, the informational screen for this failure will be displayed, as shown in the figure below. Figure 4-2. Discovery failure Here are some suggestions: Compaq hubs and switches ship with the unit set to master enabled. If you want to change the default master setting, toggle the Proxy Master Setup option from the Network Setup Menu and reboot the device.

2.
Verify that all the necessary network parameters have been set up
correctly on the device. This is done via the RS-232 serial port. See the
Compaq Hub 12 Management Module
installation instructions.
3.
If the IP address is valid, verify that the connection to the device has
been established by using the Packet Internet Groper (PING) command
(see the “PING a Device” section in this chapter). If pinging shows a
device response, continue. If not, check the physical connections.
4.
Check to see if anyone has changed the get/set Community Names on
the device and retrieve the current get/set SNMP Community Names.
The RS-232 port on the device will give information on the current
settings. See the Compaq Hub 12 Management Module
installation
instructions for more information on the RS-232 port.

If the above steps have been followed in the correct order and the most
current SNMP get/set Community Names are correct, try starting up
HMU again. If that fails, try setting the get/set Community Names back
to the defaults.
Fibre Channel Topological Discovery

It is possible for Fibre Channel topological discovery to fail. When that
happens, the informational screen for this failure will be displayed, as shown
in the figure below.
