4 Chapter Troubleshooting There are many circumstances that can cause problems in software operation, including current hardware and firmware incompatibilities, bugs in program code, physical disconnection, security problems, and user error. This troubleshooting chapter provides specific information to solve some of the common problems that may affect software performance. Startup Problem It is possible for HMU startup to fail. This is usually caused by an erroneous IP address, a broken physical IP connection to the device, or by an invalid SNMP Community Name. What you will see is the message shown in the figure below. Figure 4-1. SNMP Community Name validation failure Follow these steps to correct the situation: 1. Verify that the IP address entered is valid on the LAN (including the subnet mask). If not, find out the correct IP address and subnet mask from the system administrator.

Startup Problem
