Upgrading the Firmware B-3 Downloading Hub Controller Firmware Follow the steps below to load new hub controller firmware on a local Compaq Storage Hub 12 hub or to a remote hub. This procedure must be run on all of your Compaq Storage Hub 12 hubs. Use an HMM that has had is device agent firmware already updated to the most recent revision. This procedure is covered in the previous section. If planning to download the hub controller firmware remotely through the device agent or master hub (i.e. the hub with the HMM in it) then update the firmware in that hub first. Alternatively, move the HMM to each hub temporarily and download the firmware through it locally. As noted, moving the HMM from hub to hub will be faster because the ethernet is several times faster than is communications through ICI. If the hub is already connected to the PC, skip to step 4. 1. Place the new firmware on a file system that is available to the PC management workstation that will be connected to the hub. The device agent firmware is distributed on the Compaq website: www.compaq.com. The most recent version of the firmware is located there. 2. If the PC is not connected to the HMM, connect the PC via a null modem cable to the RS-232 serial port on the HMM. There is an explanation of how to do this is in the Compaq Storage Hub 12 Management Module installation instructions. 3. Establish a terminal emulation session. This is explained in the information noted above. 4. Press the reset button located on the upper left side of the hub. The system will run the self-test. Press Enter on your keyboard to display the Boot Menu. If your download is local to this hub, select 2 Download and update Hub-Controller code in this hub from the Boot Menu. If your download is directed to this hub and/or to remote devices, from the Boot Menu, select 3 Download and update Hub-Controller code in a remote hub (via Agent). If you are using a HyperTerminal window, select Transfer, Send Text File. Open the file to be transferred. Otherwise, follow your terminal emulator's procedure for an ASCII download. The download should take less than 5 minutes. This procedure will reset the hub and display firmware version information. Once the agent has been upgraded, select 5 Start normal hub operation.
