General Port Properties The information shown in the General Port Properties screen is specific to the port chosen. This screen offers information about active or inactive ports, the management protocol in use, and more. The error counters are essential for analyzing events. If any of these counters begin to accumulate occurrences too rapidly, check the device attached to that port. Sometimes the rapid accumulation may only indicate that the device has been disconnected and reconnected which can be typical in a SAN. However, if devices have not been disconnected or reconnected, it might be due to a problem with a device issuing invalid LIPs. Configuration Port Properties The Operating Mode options are as follows: Force Bypassed - By checking or unchecking Forced Bypassed for a port, that port will be forced bypassed or enabled, respectively. When a port is in forced bypassed mode, a device may be connected to the port, but it will not be allowed into the loop. If a port is enabled and a device is attached to that port, that device will be allowed to enter the loop (assuming that other management features such as Authorized Cut-In are not disallowing the device's access to the loop). Authorized Cut-in - A new device added should be checked before being added. Sometimes a fully operational device has been plugged into a specific port, yet disallowed from being part of the network until manually authorized. In that case, a window appears and gives permission for the new device to join the network. Single Fiber Failure Detection - If this port is connected to another hub, this option would detect the loss of a single fiber between the two. If this occurs, the two hubs isolate themselves from each other, but still function independently (effectively as two separate networks) until the problem is repaired. Since the two hubs periodically try to rediscover each other, they will reconnect automatically when the problem is fixed.
