Software Technical Reference for the HP LaserJet 9000 printers NOTE: All HP LaserJet 9000 printers ship from the factory with the latest available firmware version installed in a backup partition on the flash DIMM. If a remote firmware upgrade fails, the printer can use the backup firmware to restart the computer. You can then attempt the remote firmware upgrade again. If a remote firmware upgrade fails, any optional paper-handling devices will not function until a successful remote firmware upgrade has been completed. HP Web Access The HP Web Access feature contains the following software: • Embedded virtual machine for Java applications • HP Web Access • Web pages • Storage space HP Web Access and HP Web JetAdmin work together to provide a scalable remote management solution. Used without HP Web JetAdmin, HP Web Access provides a simple, easy-to-use solution for one-to-one printer management. In offices where there are a limited number of printers, remote management of printing devices can be accomplished without installing any management software. The only requirement is that the management console have a supported Web browser. In environments with a larger number of printers, where one-to-one management is impractical, you can use HP Web JetAdmin for printer management. In this case, HP Web JetAdmin is used for consolidated management tasks, where operations are performed on a selected set of printers instead of on individual printers. For such environments, HP has provided hooks between HP Web Access and HP Web JetAdmin so Web Access features can be configured on multiple printers in one operation. For example, the security password for HP Web Access can be set on a population of printers using one command. View status remotely If a printer problem exists, status information (such as whether the printer is online or the toner is low) is available through your Web browser linked directly to the printer. You can view this information without physically going to the printer to identify the status. The following illustration shows how this information is presented on the printer's Web page. 35

information without physically going to the printer to identify the status. The following illustration
shows how this information is presented on the printer°s Web page.
