Managing the Disk Array Using SAM Most of the tasks involved in everyday management of the disk array can be performed using SAM. Using SAM you can: • Check disk array status • Bind and unbind LUNs • Add and remove global hot spares Note Does it make any difference which controller I select when managing the disk array? When using SAM, you must select one of the controllers on the disk array you want to manage. Typically you can select either controller to perform an operation and the outcome will be the same. An exception is when you are binding a LUN. The controller you select will be assigned ownership of the LUN. To maintain I/O performance, you should divide the ownership of the LUNs on the disk array between the two controllers. 260 Managing the Disk Array Using SAM
