• Update the DNS name service or the /etc/hosts file with the virtual hostnames and IP addresses. (For improved performance, the Management Console caches hostname lookups. If your DNS changes, you may need to restart the console so that it will reflect the new hostname.) • Do not use ifconfig or another tool to configure the IP address in the operating system or a system startup script. HP Scalable NAS configures the operating system appropriately to support the virtual host. Also note the following: • After creating virtual hosts, you will need to configure your applications to recog- nize them. • As of the 3.5.1 release, HP Scalable NAS no longer uses the old aliases interface but instead uses the NETLINK facility to configure virtual hosts as secondary addresses. As a result, ipconfig(8) should no longer be used to query for HP Scalable NAS virtual hosts. Instead, use ip(8) for the queries. For example, ip addr show displays the virtual hosts. Add or modify a virtual host To add or update a virtual host, select the appropriate option: • To add a new virtual host, select Cluster > Add > Add Virtual Host or click the V-Host icon on the toolbar. Then configure the virtual host on the Add Virtual Host window. • To update an existing virtual host, select that virtual host on either the Server or Virtual Hosts window, right-click, and select Properties.
