Fibre Channel switches Changes to switch modules Changing the hardware configuration, such as adding or replacing switch modules, is not supported while HP Scalable NAS is running. This restriction applies only to Fibre Channel switches that are under the control of HP Scalable NAS. Add a new Fibre Channel switch If you are using Fibre Channel switch-based fencing and need to add a new FC switch, complete these steps: 1. Shut down HP Scalable NAS on all nodes. # /etc/init.d/pmxs stop 2. Issue the mxconsole command on one node to start the Management Console. 3. Select the Storage Configuration tab on the Configure Cluster window. In the SAN Switches section of the tab, click Add to configure the new switches. 4. Click Apply at the bottom of the Configure Cluster window. 5. Go to the Cluster Wide Configuration tab, select all servers except the server to which you are connected, and then click Export To button. 6. Restart HP Scalable NAS on the existing nodes. Online replacement of a Fibre Channel switch When a cluster includes multiple Fibre Channel switches, you can replace a switch without affecting normal cluster operations. The following conditions must be met when performing online replacement of a Fibre Channel switch: • The replacement switch must be the same model as the original switch and must have the same number of ports. • The FC connectors must be reinserted in the same location on the new switch. For example, the FC connector that was plugged into port 1 on the original switch must be plugged into port 1 on the new switch. • HP Scalable NAS must be stopped on any servers that are connected only to the switch to be replaced. 382 SAN maintenance
