The following example shows this process. NOTE: Samba shares must be mounted when setting up the CUSTOM service monitor. If the shares are not mounted, the service monitor will generate an error reporting that the monitor probe failed on the specified server when it was started. In the example, a virtual Samba server called cifs1 provides access to the PSFS filesystem /mnt/data1. The virtual Samba server is hosted by node 99.12.10.104 as the primary and node 99.12.10.105 as the backup. This example is configured as follows: • A virtual host (99.12.10.205) is created with node 99.12.10.104 designated as the primary and 99.12.10.105 designated as the backup. The virtual host must be added to the DNS name service or to the /etc/hosts file on both servers. • A CUSTOM service monitor is created on the new virtual host. The service monitor must have the same name as the virtual Samba server (cifs1 in this example). This monitor watches the Samba service on the primary node. If the node fails or the service goes down, the virtual host will fail over to the backup node. The service monitor then runs the smb_meth script located in /opt/hpcfs/methods and starts Samba operations on the backup node. Clients then reattach to the filesystem via the virtual host on the backup node. To begin the configuration, select node 99.12.10.104 on the Management Console, right-click, and select Add Virtual Host. On the Add Virtual Host dialog, specify an Application Name such as FILE_SERVING (this field is optional). Under Policy, select the NOFAILBACK option. In the Network Interfaces section of the dialog, select node 99.12.10.104 as the primary and node 99.12.10.105 as the backup. Then click OK to create the virtual host.
