Write-Protecting DLT Cartridges Each cartridge has a sliding write-protect switch. Using the write-protect switch ensures data safety for files that have been previously written to tape, preventing additional files from being written to that tape. To change the write-protect setting, move the write-protect switch (Figure 47 on page 167): I Left to prevent data from being written to the cartridge. The orange indicator on the cartridge is visible when the write-protect switch is in the "ON" position. I Right to allow data to be written to the cartridge. The orange indicator on the cartridge is not visible when the write-protect switch is in the "OFF" position.
