Chapter 6. Removing and replacing system components Replaceable components are of three types: • Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU): Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If Lenovo installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation. • Tier 2 customer replaceable unit: You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or request Lenovo to install it, at no additional charge, under the type of warranty service that is designated for your server. • Field replaceable unit (FRU): FRUs must be installed only by Trained service technicians. See Chapter 9 "Parts listing, ThinkServer RD210 Type 3795, 3796, 3818, and 3819" on page 143 to determine whether a component is a Tier 1 CRU, Tier 2 CRU, or FRU. For information about the terms of the warranty and getting service and assistance, see the Warranty and Support Information document. Removing and installing the system battery Removing the system battery The following notes describe information that you must consider when replacing the battery: • Lenovo has designed this product with your safety in mind. The lithium battery must be handled correctly to avoid possible danger. If you replace the battery, you must adhere to the following instructions. • If you replace the original lithium battery with a heavy-metal battery or a battery with heavy-metal components, be aware of the following environmental consideration. Note: After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure the server and reset the system date and time. Statement 2 CAUTION: When replacing the lithium battery, use only a battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of.
