5 SYNCHRONISING INFORMATION CHAPTER you synchronise wirelessly with the server. You need the desktop sync software to synchronise pictures, videos, music files, and other info directly with your computer. Synchronising with desktop sync software BEFORE YOU BEGIN Install the software from the Windows Mobile Getting Started CD, which came with your smartphone. You must install this software even if you have already installed a previous version of desktop sync software. See Installing ActiveSync desktop software: Windows XP or Installing Windows Mobile Device Center: Windows Vista for instructions. After you install desktop sync software, you can synchronise in either of the following ways: • By connecting your smartphone to your computer using the sync cable (see Synchronising using the sync cable) • By connecting your smartphone to your computer using Bluetooth® wireless technology (see Synchronising over a Bluetooth connection) If you have a Windows XP computer: The desktop sync software is called ActiveSync® desktop software. If you have a Windows Vista computer: The desktop sync software is called Windows Mobile Device Center. The sync application on your smartphone is called ActiveSync. What can I synchronise? If you have Microsoft Office Outlook® 2003 or later installed on your computer, by default, the following information is synchronised when you synchronise using either desktop sync software or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync: You can, however, customise sync settings to suit your needs and sync only some of these applications. 78 W H A T C A N I S Y N C H R O N I S E ?
