Defrosting Tips & Techniques Preparation For Freezing To Defrost After Defrosting D Freeze meats, poultry and fish in packages with only 1 or 2 layers of food. Place wax paper between layers. D Package in heavyĆduty plastic wraps, bags (labeled For Freezer"), or freezer paper. D Remove as much air as possible. D Seal securely, date, and label. D Remove wrapper. This helps moisture to evaporate. Juices from food can get hot and cook the food. D Set food in microwave safe dish. D Place roasts fatĆside down. Place whole poultry breastĆside down. D Select power and minimum time so that items will be underĆdefrosted. D Drain liquids during defrosting. D Turn over (invert) items during defrosting. D Shield edges and ends if needed. D Large items may be icy in the center. Defrosting will complete during standing time. D Let stand, covered. D Rinse foods indicated in the chart. D Items which have been layered should be rinsed separately or have a longer stand time. 21
