Chapter 25 Bandwidth Management Screens 25.2.1.2 Fairness-based Allotment of Unused and Unbudgeted Bandwidth The following table shows the amount of bandwidth that each class gets. Table 144 Fairness-based Allotment of Unused and Unbudgeted Bandwidth Example BANDWIDTH CLASSES AND ALLOTMENTS Root Class: 10240 kbps Administration: 1024 kbps Sales: 3072 kbps Marketing: 3072 kbps Research: 3072 kbps Suppose that all of the classes except for the administration class need more bandwidth. • Each class gets up to its budgeted bandwidth. The administration class only uses 1024 kbps of its budgeted 2048 kbps. • The ZyWALL divides the total 3072 kbps total of unbudgeted and unused bandwidth equally among the other classes. 1024 kbps extra goes to each so the other classes each get a total of 3072 kbps. 25.2.2 Reserving Bandwidth for Non-Bandwidth Class Traffic Do the following three steps to configure the ZyWALL to allow bandwidth for traffic that is not defined in a bandwidth filter. 1 Leave some of the interface's bandwidth unbudgeted. 2 Do not enable the interface's Maximize Bandwidth Usage option. 3 Do not enable bandwidth borrowing on the sub-classes that have the root class as their parent (see Section 25.3 on page 471). 25.3 The Class Setup Screen The Class Setup screen displays the configured bandwidth classes by individual interface. Select an interface and click the buttons to perform the actions described next. Click "+" to expand the class tree or click "-" to collapse the class tree. Each interface has a permanent root class. The bandwidth budget of the root class is equal to the speed you configured on the interface (see Section 25.2 on page 467 to configure the speed of the interface). Configure subclass layers for the root class. To add or delete child classes on an interface, click ADVANCED > BW MGMT > Class Setup. The screen is shown here with example classes.
