Chapter 4 Wizard Setup The following table describes the labels in this screen. Table 14 ISP Parameters: PPPoE Encapsulation LABEL DESCRIPTION ISP Parameter for Internet Access Encapsulation Choose an encapsulation method from the pull-down list box. PPP over Ethernet forms a dial-up connection. Service Name Type the name of your service provider. User Name Type the user name given to you by your ISP. Password Type the password associated with the user name above. Retype to Confirm Type your password again for confirmation. Nailed-Up Select Nailed-Up if you do not want the connection to time out. Idle Timeout Type the time in seconds that elapses before the router automatically disconnects from the PPPoE server. The default time is 100 seconds. WAN IP Address Assignment IP Address Assignment Select Dynamic If your ISP did not assign you a fixed IP address. This is the default selection. Select Static If the ISP assigned a fixed IP address. The fields below are available only when you select Static. My WAN IP Address Enter your WAN IP address in this field. First DNS Server Second DNS Server Enter the DNS server's IP address(es) in the field(s) to the right. Leave the field as 0.0.0.0 if you do not want to configure DNS servers. If you do not configure a DNS server, you must know the IP address of a machine in order to access it. Back Click Back to return to the previous wizard screen. Apply Click Apply to save your changes and go to the next screen. 4.2.1.3 PPTP Encapsulation Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is a network protocol that enables transfers of data from a remote client to a private server, creating a Virtual Private Network (VPN) using TCP/ IP-based networks. PPTP supports on-demand, multi-protocol, and virtual private networking over public networks, such as the Internet.
