Chapter 8 Configuring VLANs How the VMPS Works Default VMPS Configuration Table 8-13 shows the default VMPS and dynamic port configuration on client switches. Table 8-13 Default VMPS Client and Dynamic Port Configuration Feature VMPS domain server VMPS reconfirm interval VMPS server retry count Dynamic ports Default Configuration None 60 minutes 3 None configured Configuring Dynamic VLAN Membership You must enter the IP address of the Catalyst 5000 switch or the other device acting as the VMPS to configure the Catalyst 2900 XL or Catalyst 3500 XL switch as a client. If the VMPS is being defined for a cluster of switches, enter the address on the command switch. Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to enter the IP address of the VMPS: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Command configure terminal vmps server ipaddress primary vmps server ipaddress Step 4 end Step 5 show vmps Purpose Enter global configuration mode. Enter the IP address of the switch acting as the primary VMPS server. Enter the IP address for the switch acting as a secondary VMPS server. You can enter up to three secondary server addresses. Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify the VMPS server entry.
