Chapter 8 Configuring VLANs How the VMPS Works Changing the Reconfirmation Interval VMPS clients periodically reconfirm the VLAN membership information received from the VMPS. You can set the number of minutes after which reconfirmation occurs. If you are configuring a member switch in a cluster, this parameter must be equal to or greater than the reconfirmation setting on the command switch. In addition, you must first log into the member switch by using the privileged EXEC rcommand command. For more information about this command, refer to the switch command reference. Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to change the reconfirmation interval: Step 1 Step 2 Command configure terminal vmps reconfirm minutes Step 3 end Step 4 show vmps Purpose Enter global configuration mode. Enter the number of minutes between reconfirmations of the dynamic VLAN membership. Enter a number from 1 to 120. The default is 60 minutes. Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify the dynamic VLAN reconfirmation status. In the display, check the Reconfirm Interval field. Changing the Retry Count Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to change the number of times that the switch attempts to contact the VMPS before querying the next server: Step 1 Step 2 Command configure terminal vmps retry count Step 3 exit Step 4 show vmps Purpose Enter global configuration mode. Change the retry count. The retry range is from 1 to 10; the default is 3. Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify your entry. In the display, check the Server Retry Count field. 78-6511-08 Catalyst 2900 Series XL and Catalyst 3500 Series XL Software Configuration Guide 8-41
