Table 14 Licensed Capacity Type Type Used capacity Explanation How to Estimate the Licensed Capacity The licensed capacity is estimated using the capacity that the program product option will use. The estimated capacity differs depending on the program product option: See "Estimating Licensed Capacity Based on Used Capacity" (page 46). • Normal volumes (local volumes) • External volumes mapped to the storage system • Pools Mounted capacity Unlimited capacity The licensed capacity is estimated using the capacity mounted in the entire disk drive of the storage system. See "Estimating Licensed Capacity Based on Mounted Capacity" (page 47). You can use the program product option, regardless N/A of the volume capacity. Estimating Licensed Capacity Based on Used Capacity There are three capacities to use for estimating the licensed capacity, depending on the program product option: • Normal volume capacity The method to calculate normal volume capacity depends on the volume emulation types. Table 15 Methods for Calculating Capacity of a Normal Volume Volume Emulation Type 3380-x 3390-x OPEN-x Formula for Calculating Capacity of a Normal Volume 720 KB x (number of user cylinders) 870 KB x (number of user cylinders) Same as the capacity specified when creating the volume. NOTE: In the left column of Table 15 (page 46), x indicates a number or a letter. For example, OPEN-x refers to emulation types such as OPEN-3 and OPEN-V. You can use the formulas in Table 15 (page 46) to estimate capacity for purchase. An example is given in Table 16 (page 46). Table 16 An Example of Estimating Capacity for Purchase Based on Used Capacity Item Volume emulation type Number of user cylinders Number of volumes Total capacity of all the volumes Value 3390-3 3,339 2,048 870 KB x 3,339 x 2,048 = 5,949,296,640 KB 5,949,296,640 KB 1,024 = 5,809,860 MB 5,809,860 MB 1,024 = 5,673.70 GB 5,673.70 GB 1,024 = 5.54 TB Estimated capacity for purchase At least 6 TB • External volume capacity The method to calculate external volume capacity is as follows: 46 Installation Requirements and Procedures
