Configuring GARP Generic Attribute Registration Protocol (GARP) is a general-purpose protocol that registers any network connectivity or membership-style information. GARP defines a set of devices interested in a given network attribute, such as VLAN or Multicast address. When configuring GARP, ensure the following: • The leave time must be greater than or equal to three times the join time. • The leave all time must be greater than the leave time. Set the same GARP timer values on all Layer 2-connected devices. If the GARP timers are set differently on the Layer 2-connected devices, GARP application does not operate successfully. To open the GARP page, click Switch→ GARP in the tree view. Defining GARP Timers The GARP Timers page contains fields for enabling GARP on the device. To open the GARP Timers page, click Switch→ GARP → GARP Timers in the tree view. Figure 7-31. GARP Timers • Interface - Determines if enabled on a port or on a LAG. • GARP Join Timer (10 - 2147483640) - Time, in milliseconds, that PDUs are transmitted.
