21 Troubleshooting and 21 Routine Maintenance Troubleshooting IMPORTANT For technical and operational assistance, you must call the country where you purchased the printer. Calls must be made from within that country. Error Messages As with any sophisticated office product, errors may sometimes occur. If this happens, your MFC often identifies the problem and displays an error message. The table below explains the most common error messages. You can correct most problems by yourself. In USA: 1-800-521-2846 Error Messages Error Message CHANGE DRUM SOON CHECK PAPER CHECK PAPER #1 CHECK PAPER #2 CHECK PAPER SIZE CHECK SCAN LOCK COMM. ERROR CONNECTION FAIL Cause The drum unit is near the end of its life. The drum counter was not reset. The MFC is out of paper or paper is not properly loaded in the paper cassette. When you see this error, the paper in the cassette does not match the paper size you set in Menu, 1, 1. The scanner lock is locked. Poor phone line quality caused communication error. You tried to poll a MFC that is not in Polled Waiting mode. Action Use the drum unit until you have a print quality problem; then replace the drum unit with a new one. 1. Open the front cover, and then press Stop/Exit. 2. Press 1 to reset. Refill the cassette or remove the paper and load it again. Either load the appropriate size paper or change the default setting. (See page 4-1). Release the scanner lock lever, and then press Stop/Exit. Try the call again. If problem continues, call Telephone Company to check your phone line.
