Chapter 8 Troubleshooting Multifeed errors occur frequently. Does the document satisfy the requirements described in Precautions in "Paper Quality" (page 42)? YES With the Multifeed Detection set to ON, do the settings configured satisfy the requirements to detect multifeeds correctly? YES Did you scan very thick media such as a plastic card? NO Did you fan the document before loading it on the scanner? YES Has the document just been printed out on a copier or laser printer? NO Is the document stack less than 20 mm (0.79 in.) thick (10 mm (0.39 in.) when the document size is larger than A4/Letter)? YES Are all the consumables (*1) installed correctly? YES Is any of the consumables (*1) dirty? NO NO NO YES NO YES NO NO YES Use the document that satisfies the requirements. For the document requirements, refer to "2.2 ADF-Loaded Documents" (on page 42). Configure the settings for detecting multifeeds correctly. For the multifeed detection conditions, refer to "Multifeed Detection Conditions" (page 45). Specify the multifeed detection range, if needed, by referring to "Detecting Multifeeds" (page 108). When scanning media like this, disable Multifeed Detection. Fan the document before loading. Fan the document three or four times to remove static electricity from the paper. Reduce the number of sheets of the document stack. Correctly install the consumables (*1). For how to install the consumables, refer to "Chapter 7 Consumables" (on page 123). Clean the dirty consumables (*1). For how to clean the consumables, refer to "6.2 Cleaning the ADF" (on page 117).
