PART 7 USING MS-DOS 7.6 Disk Fides 7.6.1 Definition of File A file is a collection of related information, which the system unit stores on a disk. A file can be compared to a file folder in a desk drawer. For example, one file folder may contain the names and addresses of employees who work in an office. You may name this file the Employee Master File. A file on your disk can also contain the names and addresses of employees in the office. All data and programs on your disk reside in files and each file has a unique name. You refer to files by their names. 7-20
