PART 7 USING MS-DOS 7.7.7 RENAME : Changing a File Name The RENAME command lets you change the name of a file. (1) Make sure that prompt A> is displayed. (2) Insert a disk into drive -A that contains the file name, e.g. REPORT which you want to change. (3) Lets assume that REPORT is to be changed to DRAFT Type rename report &aft and then press the Enter key. Note that you have to type the old name first, and a space, then the new name. (4) You will see prompt A> and the file name which has been changed. Notes 1. An attempt to change the name of a file to a name that already exists on the disk results in the following error message. Duplicate file name or File not found 2. If the disk containing the file to be renamed is inserted into drive -B, type rename b:report draft . 7-44

The

command

file.
(1)
