PART 5 DISKS AND DISK DRIVES 5.1 Concepts Two essential elements of any computer are its temporary and permanent storage devices. The computer's random access memory (RAM), commonly called memory, temporarily stores information during processing. Data in memory may disappear when you load a new program, and is lost when you turn the computer off. Disks provide more permanent memory. The T3200 is equipped with two types of disk. The integrated hard disk drive which cannot be removed from the computer holds 40 megabytes of information. The T3200 also includes a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive. You can remove floppy disk from their drive and store them or transport them to other computers. 5.2 Disk Drive Options You can add an external 5.25-inch floppy disk drive to the T3200. The T3200 also supports a 3 megabyte memory expansion option. Part of this memory can be set aside to function as a very fast disk drive. This is called a RAM, or virtual disk (VDISK). 5-1

PART

DISKS
AND
DISK
DRIVES
5.1
Concepts
Two
essential
elements
of
any
computer
are
its
temporary
and
permanent
storage
devices.
The
computer's
random
access
memory
(RAM),
commonly
called
memory,
temporarily
stores
information
during
processing.
Data
in
memory
may
disappear
when
you
load
a
new
program,
and
is
lost
when
you
turn
the
computer
off.
Disks
provide
more
permanent
memory.
The
T3200
is
equipped
with
two
types
of
disk.
The
integrated
hard
disk
drive
which
cannot
be
removed
from
the
computer
holds
40
megabytes
of
information.
The
T3200
also
includes
a
3.5
-inch
floppy
disk
drive.
You
can
remove
floppy
disk
from
their
drive
and
store
them
or
transport
them
to
other
computers.
5.2
Disk
Drive
Options
You
can
add
an
external
5.25
-inch
floppy
disk
drive
to
the
T3200.
The
T3200
also
supports
a
3
megabyte
memory
expansion
option.
Part
of
this
memory
can
be
set
aside
to
function
as
a
very
fast
disk
drive.
This
is
called
a
RAM,
or
virtual
disk
(VDISK).
