PART 7 USING MS-DOS Note that whenever the T3200 is booted from the hard disk, MS-DOS displays prompt C> instead of A> . MS-DOS reserves the drive letter -C for the hard disk drive. Even if the T3200 has only one floppy disk drive, MS-DOS sets aside -A and -B for single -disk operation. Once you create the MS-DOS partition, you can not change its size without deleting and re-creating it. (12) The hard disk gives you the benefits of great storage capacity, reliability and faster data access. With these benefits, you may keep much of your most frequently used programs and data on the disk. This may create a risk of a different kind: serious disruption in the event of a possible, but unlikely, disk failure. To avoid the risk, you should implement a regular backup procedure. MS-DOS provides two commands for this purpose. The BACKUP command allows you to backup files or programs onto floppy disks. The RESTORE command restores these backup files from floppy disks onto the hard disk. However, you can only restore files that were previously backed up with the BACKUP command. Refer to the MS-DOS Reference Manual for further information about these commands. 7-58

PART
7
USING
MS-DOS
Note
that
whenever
the
T3200
is
booted
from
the
hard
disk,
MS-DOS
displays
prompt
C>
instead
of
A>
.
MS-DOS
reserves
the
drive
letter
-C
for
the
hard
disk
drive.
Even
if
the
T3200
has
only
one
floppy
disk
drive,
MS-DOS
sets
aside
-A
and
-B
for
single
-disk
operation.
Once
you
create
the
MS-DOS
partition,
you
can
not
change
its
size
without
deleting
and
re-creating
it.
(12)
The
hard
disk
gives
you
the
benefits
of
great
storage
capacity,
reliability
and
faster
data
access.
With
these
benefits,
you
may
keep
much
of
your
most
frequently
used
programs
and
data
on
the
disk.
This
may
create
a
risk
of
a
different
kind:
serious
disruption
in
the
event
of
a
possible,
but
unlikely,
disk
failure.
To
avoid
the
risk,
you
should
implement
a
regular
backup
procedure.
MS-DOS
provides
two
commands
for
this
purpose.
The
BACKUP
command
allows
you
to
backup
files
or
programs
onto
floppy
disks.
The
RESTORE
command
restores
these
backup
files
from
floppy
disks
onto
the
hard
disk.
However,
you
can
only
restore
files
that
were
previously
backed
up
with
the
BACKUP
command.
Refer
to
the
MS-DOS
Reference
Manual
for
further
information
about
these
commands.
