PART 7 USING MS-DOS 7.6.5 How MS-DOS Keeps Track of Your Files The names of your files are kept on the disk in an area known as the directory. The directory also contains information on the size of files, their location on the disk, and the dates and times they were created and updated. Each disk can contain up to 64 or 112 files of varying sizes. The maximum number of files depends on disk format. If your files are large, the disk may be filled up with fewer than 64 or 112 files.
