Installing the Memory-Riser Guide 1 Align the memory-riser guide with the slots on the chassis. 2 Lower the memory-riser guide into the system until the tabs click into place. 3 Install the memory risers. See "Installing a Memory Riser" on page 101. 4 If applicable, install the memory-riser blanks. See "Installing a Memory- Riser Blank" on page 100. 5 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 90. 6 Reconnect the system and peripherals to their power sources, and turn them on. Hard Drives All drives connect to the system board through the SAS/SATA backplane board. Hard drives are supplied in special hot-swappable drive carriers that fit in the hard-drive bays. CAUTION: Before attempting to remove or install a drive while the system is running, see the documentation for the SAS controller card to ensure that the host adapter is configured correctly to support hot-swap drive removal and insertion. CAUTION: Do not turn off or reboot your system while the drive is being formatted. Doing so can cause a drive failure. NOTE: Use only drives that have been tested and approved for use with the SAS/SATA backplane board. When you format a hard drive, allow enough time for the formatting to be completed. Be aware that high-capacity hard drives can take a number of hours to format. Installing System Components 107
