Tips on Using the Scanner This section provides you with some tips and further information for using the scanner. Note: Use these guidelines and your scanner software to obtain better results when scanning and reproducing images. Scanning Line Art and Characters If the line art contains many straight lines, adjust the document position so that lines are aligned with the horizontal scan or vertical scan directions. If it is placed askew, the straight lines will have jagged edges. Adjusting for Different Document Types Focusing For the best focus, place the document flat against the document table. As the distance from the document table increases, the focus is lost and the image is blurred or darkened. Document surface For better scanning results, make sure the document surface is smooth. If there is a pasted-up area, colors may blur at the edge of this area. Textured and embossed surfaces may produce blurred images because light from the scanner lamps is not evenly reflected on them. 2-18 Using the Scanner

Adjusting for Different Document Types

For the best focus, place the document flat against the document
