Cleaning the surface of the camcorder • Do not wipe the surface of the camcorder hard with any foreign object, such as grit adhering to the camcorder, and do not use rough fabrics to clean the surface of the camcorder. Doing so could scratch it. • Use soft cloth to gently wipe dirt off the surface of the camcorder. Do not use benzene or thinner to clean the surface of the camcorder. • The coating of the case could peel off or the case could deteriorate. Wipe off dirt on the case with a soft cloth which has been completely wrung out. When using chemical cleaning cloth, follow instructions for use. z Handling HDD/discs Using HDD/discs • Do not do the following when the ACCESS/PC indicator is lit: − shake or subject the camcorder to impacts, or open/close the LCD monitor − cut the power, or remove the battery or AC adapter − remove the recording media. As the ACCESS/PC indicator will remain lit for a while after concluding recording, please continue to observe the above precautions while the indicator is lit. • While using HDD/DVD, if the power is cut accidentally while the ACCESS/PC indicator is lit or flashing, connect the AC adapter and then turn on the power again. When using a DVD, turn the power back on while the DVD is loaded in the camcorder. The HDD/DVD will be restored. (p.148) • Use a DVD which is not dirty, scratched, or warped. • A Hitachi Maxell DVD is recommended. • If there is concern that the camcorder may be subjected to large vibrations or impact during transport, remove the DVD and protect the camcorder using soft protective materials. • Be careful when removing the disc since the metal of removal slot of camcorder, and disc itself, may be hot. Disc cleaning • Use a soft cleaning cloth to lightly wipe off any dirt adhering to the disc as shown in the figure. Do not wipe the disc with force: Doing so could cause scratches. Never use solvent (thinner, water, antistat or detergent) for cleaning. Storing discs • If the camcorder is not used for long periods of time, remove the disc from the camcorder. • When storing disc, replace it in the plastic case in which it was purchased. • Be careful that no condensation occurs on disc. • Do not place disc in following places: − Direct sunlight for a long time − Where humidity is high or in dusty place − Where there is heat from a heater, etc. If the above countermeasures are not taken, the following symptoms may occur: 170 Additional Information
