Types of trouble and how to correct trouble During playback Symptom Cause and/or Corrective Actions Playback is not possible. • The tape has run out. c Rewind the tape (p. 42). There are horizontal lines on the picture or the playback picture is not clear or does not appear. • The video head may be dirty. c Clean the head using the cleaning cassette (optional) (p. 222). No sound or only a low sound is heard when playing back the tape. • The stereo tape is played back with HiFi SOUND set to 2 in in the menu settings. c Set HiFi SOUND to STEREO (p. 194). • Volume is turned to minimum. c Turn up the volume (p. 42). • AUDIO MIX is set to the ST2 side in in the menu settings. c Adjust AUDIO MIX (p. 194). The sound breaks off. • The video head may be dirty. c Clean the head using a cleaning cassette (optional) (p. 222). Date search by selecting the date from the screen does not work. • The cassette has no Cassette Memory. c Use a cassette with Cassette Memory (p. 82). • CM SEARCH is set to OFF in in the menu settings. c Set it to ON (p. 197). • The tape has a blank portion in the beginning or middle (p. 83).
