160 Keeping Your Files Safe Using a password in Windows 95 and Windows 98 ❖ An instant (user-level) password lets you "lock" your computer when you need to leave it for a few minutes. ❖ A supervisor-level password which protects system settings by restricting who can make changes in Toshiba Utilities and TSETUP. This is useful if more than one person is using the computer. ❖ A hard disk drive password which protects your data by requiring a password when you try to access the hard disk, whether it's in your computer or in another system. You can set a hard disk drive User password and/or a hard disk drive Master password. ❖ The Undock (Eject) password protects your computer and data by requiring a password when disconnecting from the optional Desk Station V Plus. Setting a user-level password The user-level password is the basic level of password security. You can use it as a power-on password, an instant password and an undock/eject password. For most users, this is all the password security you'll need. You may create a user-level password using either Toshiba Utilities or TSETUP. This section describes how to create a userlevel password in Toshiba Utilities and how to use it as an instant and power-on password. CAUTION: Make sure you use a password you can remember easily. If you ever forget your password, contact your network administration. A good way to prevent forgetting your password is to create a password service diskette. Refer to "Setting a password in TSETUP" on page 161 for instructions. Part II: Technical Reference
