FAQ for Wi-Fi E. Security E1: What is WEP? WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy, a security service, used to prevent the unauthorized access to your wireless network. E2: How many WEP security service modes does my Wireless LAN support? WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy that is the security service for the Wireless Network. There are three WEP security service modes available for "IEEE 802.11b WLAN Adaptor" formed Wireless Net- work. The higher the data rate, the smaller the range it could cover. At 11 Mbps, the adaptor can go up to 300 meter in an outdoor environment; however, in an indoor environment, it can only go up to 100 meter.
