www.dell.com | support.dell.com Synchronize log messages You can configure FTOS to filter and consolidate the system messages for a specific line by synchronizing the message output. Only the messages with a severity at or below the set level appear. This feature works on the terminal and console connections available on the system. To synchronize log messages, use these commands in the following sequence starting in the CONFIGURATION mode: Step Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose 1 line {console 0 | vty number [end-number] CONFIGURATION Enter the LINE mode. Configure the | aux 0} following parameters for the virtual terminal lines: • number range: zero (0) to 8. • end-number range: 1 to 8. You can configure multiple virtual terminals at one time by entering a number and an end-number. 2 logging synchronous [level severity-level | LINE all] [limit] Configure a level and set the maximum number of messages to be printed. Configure the following optional parameters: • level severity-level range: 0 to 7. Default is 2. Use the all keyword to include all messages. • limit range: 20 to 300. Default is 20. To view the logging synchronous configuration, use the show config command in the LINE mode. Enable timestamp on syslog messages By default, syslog messages do not include a time/date stamp stating when the error or message was created. To have FTOS include a timestamp with the syslog message, use the following command syntax in the CONFIGURATION mode: Command Syntax service timestamps [log | debug] [datetime [localtime] [msec] [show-timezone] | uptime] Command Mode Purpose CONFIGURATION Add timestamp to syslog messages. Specify the following optional parameters: • datetime: You can add the keyword localtime to include the localtime, msec, and show-timezone. If you do not add the keyword localtime, the time is UTC. • uptime. To view time since last boot. If neither parameter is specified, FTOS configures uptime. 68 | Management

Synchronize log messages

You can configure FTOS to filter and consolidate the system messages for a specific line by synchronizing

the message output. Only the messages with a severity at or below the set level appear. This feature works

on the terminal and console connections available on the system.

To synchronize log messages, use these commands in the following sequence starting in the

CONFIGURATION mode:

To view the logging synchronous configuration, use the

show config

command in the LINE mode.

Enable timestamp on syslog messages

By default, syslog messages do not include a time/date stamp stating when the error or message was

created.

To have FTOS include a timestamp with the syslog message, use the following command syntax in the

CONFIGURATION mode:
