Creating a New Stack Prior to creating a stack, know which unit will be the management unit and which will be the standby unit. You must also enable the front ports of the units for stacking. For more information, see "Enable Front End Port Stacking" on page 922. To create a new stack: Step Task Command Syntax Command Mode 1 Power up all units in the stack 2 Verify that each unit has the same FTOS version show version prior to stacking them together. EXEC Privilege 3 Manually configure unit numbers for each unit, stack-unit 0 renumber so that the stacking is deterministic upon boot up. Renumbering will cause the unit to reboot. The stack-unit default for all new units is stack-unit 0. EXEC Privilege 4 Configure the switch priority for each unit to stack-unit priority make management unit selection deterministic. CONFIGURATION 5 Assign a stack group for each unit. Begin with the stack-unit id stack-group id first port on the management unit. Next, configure both ports on each subsequent unit. Finally, return to the management unit and configure the last port. (See the example below.) Range: 0 to 15 CONFIGURATION 6 Connect the units using stacking cables. Note: The S4810 and S4820T do not require special stacking cables. The cables used to connect the data ports are sufficient. Stacking | 923
