General Problems, Action, Intermittent Problems

Page 182 highlights

Troubleshooting General Problems The server does not start when you press the power switch. Action Verify that: 1. All cables are securely connected to the proper connectors on the server. For the location of the connectors, see "Input/Output Connectors" on page 10. 2. The server cover is properly installed. 3. The power outlet functions properly. 4. You installed the correct type of memory. If you just installed an option, remove it, and restart the server. If the server now starts, you might have installed more options than the power supply supports. If the problem still exists, have the system serviced. Intermittent Problems A problem occurs only occasionally and is difficult to detect. Action Verify that: 1. All cables and cords are connected securely to the rear of the system and attached options. 2. When the system is turned on, the fan grill is not blocked (that is, air is flowing from the rear of the system at the fan grill), and the fans are working. If there is no air flow, the fans are not working. This causes the system to overheat and shut down. 3. The last external device in each SCSI chain is terminated correctly. Refer to your SCSI documentation and see "Termination Requirements" on page 75. If the items above are correct, have the system serviced. 164 Netfinity 3500 User's Handbook

Troubleshooting
General Problems
Action
The server does not start
when you press the
power switch.
Verify that:
1.
All cables are securely connected to the proper
connectors on the server.
For the location of the
connectors, see “Input/Output Connectors” on
page 10.
2.
The server cover is properly installed.
3.
The power outlet functions properly.
4.
You installed the correct type of memory.
If you just installed an option, remove it, and restart
the server.
If the server now starts, you might have
installed more options than the power supply supports.
If the problem still exists, have the system serviced.
Intermittent Problems
Action
A problem occurs only
occasionally and is
difficult to detect.
Verify that:
1.
All cables and cords are connected securely to the
rear of the system and attached options.
2.
When the system is turned on, the fan grill is not
blocked (that is, air is flowing from the rear of the
system at the fan grill), and the fans are working.
If there is no air flow, the fans are not working.
This causes the system to overheat and shut down.
3.
The last external device in each SCSI chain is
terminated correctly.
Refer to your SCSI
documentation and see “Termination
Requirements” on page
75.
If the items above are correct, have the system serviced.
