Setting the Ethernet Controller Operation Mode Switch When you want to change the Ethernet controller operation mode from Normal to MAC Disabled, you must change the setting of configuration switch 6. Before you begin: Read "Electrical Safety" on page 54 and "Handling Static-Sensitive Devices" on page 55. Turn off the server and all other connected devices. Disconnect all external cables attached to the server; then, remove the server cover (see "Preparing to Add Options" on page 56). 1. Locate the configuration switches (also known as rocker switches) on the system board. For more information, refer to the label inside the server, or see "System Board Illustration" on page 203. 2. To set the Ethernet controller operation mode to the appropriate value, set switch 6 as shown in the following illustration. It might be helpful to use the end of a small screwdriver to set the switch. Note: In the following illustration, MAC represents media access control. This refers to the Ethernet controller address. Ethernet Normal Operation 12345678 ON OFF Ethernet MAC Disabled 12345678 ON OFF 3. Move the switch to the ON position. 4. Make the required adjustments to the Ethernet controller address. 5.
