What Happens after Power-On? What Happens When Power Is Turned On? You see one of the following prompts when the computer is turned on: An operating system screen appears when the computer is operating correctly. The screen you see may differ depending on your operating system. It instructs you to insert a self-starting diskette into the diskette drive and press F1 to start the diskette. The order in which the computer checks the drives for an operating system is set in the drive-startup sequence. See "Using the Selectable Drive-Startup Sequence" on page 38 for more information. This screen instructs you to set the date and time for the first time. Enter the date and time (see page 36); then press Enter. ERROR OK Cancel This screen indicates that a failure occurred during the power-on self-test (POST). See page 154 for the necessary actions. This icon appears when a power-on password is set.
