Connecting With FireWire FireWire is a high-speed data transfer system that lets you easily connect and disconnect external devices-such as digital music players, digital video (DV) cameras, printers, scanners, and hard disk drives. You can connect and disconnect FireWire devices without restarting your computer. FireWire 800 port FireWire 400 ports Your computer includes three external FireWire ports. Â Two FireWire 400 ports, one on the front and one on the back, support a maximum data rate of up to 400 megabits per second (Mbps). Â One high-speed FireWire 800 port on the back supports a maximum data rate of up to 800 megabits per second (Mbps).
