Cleaning the Ink Cartridges If print quality did not improve during the Head Cleaning and alignment, you can remove the ink cartridges to clean their nozzles and contacts. See page 2-15 for instructions. See Cleaning the Ink Cartridges p. 2-15 and Cleaning the Cartridge Carrier p. 2-17 See Ordering Accessories and Supplies p. ii Cleaning the Cartridge Carrier Clean the contacts on the cartridge carrier only if print quality is still unsatisfactory after you have removed the ink cartridges and cleaned their ink nozzles. See page 2-17 for instructions. Storing an Extra Ink Cartridge If you have purchased the Photo ink cartridge, Brother supplied a plastic cartridge container to store your extra cartridge so it doesn't dry out. Always store your Black or Photo ink cartridge in the cartridge container until you are ready to use it again. Troubleshooting and Maintenance Preserving Ink Cartridges For long life and optimum performance: s Do NOT unpack a new ink cartridge until you are ready to install it. s Do NOT remove an ink cartridge from the MFC except to clean, replace or exchange it. Protect the Black or Photo ink cartridge while it is not being used, by placing it in a cartridge container so it will not dry out. s Leave an empty ink cartridge in the MFC until you are ready to replace it. Printing with an empty cartridge carrier slot may cause problems. s Do not refill ink cartridges. Refilling empty ink cartridges voids your warranty. Incompatible inks can cause damage to the MFC. Use only genuine Brother ink cartridges. TROUBLESHOOTING AND MAINTENANCE 24- 15
