102 Exchanging Messages 6.1 Sending Text and Multimedia Messages Messaging lets you compose and send text (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) to other mobile phones. Open Messaging To open the Messaging application, press HOME, touch the Applications tab, then touch Messaging. The message list appears. If the list is long, you can scroll up the screen to view more messages, or roll the TRACKBALL down. Touch here to create a new text or picture message. Message delivery status. Touch here to open the message or message thread and read the text or view the picture message. Create and send SMS and MMS messages You can compose text (SMS) messages of up to 160 characters. If you continue to type after the limit is reached, your message will be delivered as one, but count as more than one message. These are called concatenated messages. Multimedia messages, also known as MMS, can contain text and a picture, a recorded voice, an audio file, or a picture slideshow. Note Messaging automatically converts a text message into a multimedia message when you entered an e-mail address in the To field, added a message subject, or attached an item.
