CHAPTER 9 The VPN Transport Screens 9.1 Overview This chapter describes the ADVANCED > VPN Transport screens, where you can configure the WiMAX Device to allow traffic from multiple users to pass through the WiMAX network to the service provider's router. Each user has his own personal connection to the service provider, even though there is only a single WiMAX connection. This allows the service provider to identify which user traffic comes from. VPN stands for "Virtual Private Network". There are many types of VPN; the type used by the WiMAX Device is known as Virtual Private LAN Service, or VPLS. Note: Unlike some other types of VPN (such as IPSec VPNs) VPLS VPNs do not use authentication or encryption to secure the data they carry. The following figure shows two users (A and B), connecting to the WiMAX Device (Z) through a switch (S). Each user has his own connection over the WiMAX network to the service provider's router (R).
