Chapter 8 DHCP Server Table 63 Add/Edit DHCP Server Subnet (continued) LABEL Get subnet from IP interface Maximum lease time DESCRIPTION Select the name of the IP interface to bind the appropriate IP address and subnet mask. This is the period of time DHCP-assigned addresses is used. DHCP automatically assigns IP addresses to clients when they log in. DHCP centralizes IP address management on central computers that run the DHCP server program. DHCP leases addresses, for a period of time, which means that past addresses are "recycled" and made available for future reassignment to other systems. Enter the maximum duration in minutes before the P-794H requests a new IP address from the DHCP server. Default lease time Enter the default duration in minutes before the P-794H requests a new IP address from the DHCP server. IP addresses to be available on this subnet Start of address range Enter the IP address from which the P-794H begins allocating IP addresses. End of address range Enter the IP address from which the P-794H stops allocating IP addresses. Use a default range If you select this checkbox, the router's default address pool will be enabled and you do not need to configure the start and end of address range. DNS server option information Primary DNS server address Specify the IP addresses of a maximum of three DNS servers that the network can use. The P-794H provides these IP addresses to DHCP clients. Enter the first IP address of two DNS servers that the network can use. Secondary DNS server Enter the second IP address of two DNS servers that the network address can use. Use local host address as DNS server If you select this checkbox, the local IP address will be passed to DHCP clients who request a DNS (Domain Name System) server address. The DNS relay should be enabled to forward DNS queries appropriately. Default gateway option information Use local host as default gateway If you select this checkbox, the local IP address will be passed to DHCP clients who request a default gateway address. Additional option information Create new DHCP option Click this to configure a new DHCP server configuration option that will be sent to DHCP clients on this subnet. This field is available only when you are editing the DHCP server subnet. OK Reset Cancel See Section 8.4.1.1 on page 141 for more information. Click this to confirm your settings.
