POST Messages POST message 1800 Description A PCI adapter has requested a hardware interrupt that is not available. Action: 1. Make sure that all ISA legacy adapters and all other adapters are set correctly in the Configuration/Setup Utility program. If the hardware interrupt settings are not correct, change and save the settings. Setting the resources used by ISA legacy adapters to ISA Resource enables the Plug and Play function to configure around the legacy adapters. For information about PCI and ISA adapters, see "Working with adapters" on page 79. For information about Plug and Play and legacy (non-Plug and Play) adapters, see "ISA Legacy Resources" on page 55. For information about the required interrupt resource settings for ISA adapters, refer to the documentation that comes with these adapters. For information on using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, see "Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program" on page 39. 2. Make sure that switches on all ISA legacy adapters are set correctly. For information about switch settings, refer to the documentation that comes with the ISA legacy adapters. 3. If all hardware interrupts are being used by ISA legacy adapters, you might need to remove an ISA legacy adapter to make an interrupt available to the PCI adapter that you want to install. For information about removing adapters, see "Installing or removing ISA and PCI adapters" on page 82. For information on setting interrupts, see "PCI Control" on page 54. Note: If you remove an ISA legacy adapter, set the hardware interrupt used by the removed adapter to Available before installing another adapter. 4. If you have other PCI or Plug and Play adapters installed, you might need to remove one of these adapters to make an interrupt available to the PCI adapter that you want to install. If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have the system serviced. Chapter 5. Solving problems 179

Description
1800
A PCI adapter has requested a hardware interrupt that is not
available.
Action:
1.
Make sure that all ISA legacy adapters and all other adapters
are set correctly in the Configuration/Setup Utility program.
If the hardware interrupt settings are not correct, change and
save the settings.
Setting the resources used by ISA legacy
adapters to
ISA Resource
enables the Plug and Play function
to configure around the legacy adapters.
For information about PCI and ISA adapters, see “Working
with adapters” on page
79.
For information about Plug and
Play and legacy (non-Plug and Play) adapters, see “ISA
Legacy Resources” on page
55.
For information about the
required interrupt resource settings for ISA adapters, refer to
the documentation that comes with these adapters.
For
information on using the Configuration/Setup Utility
program, see “Using the Configuration/Setup Utility
program” on page
39.
2.
Make sure that switches on all ISA legacy adapters are set
correctly.
For information about switch settings, refer to the
documentation that comes with the ISA legacy adapters.
3.
If all hardware interrupts are being used by ISA legacy
adapters, you might need to remove an ISA legacy adapter to
make an interrupt available to the PCI adapter that you want
to install.
For information about removing adapters, see
“Installing or removing ISA and PCI adapters” on page
82.
For information on setting interrupts, see “PCI Control” on
page 54.
Note:
If you remove an ISA legacy adapter, set the hardware
interrupt used by the removed adapter to
Available
before installing another adapter.
4.
If you have other PCI or Plug and Play adapters installed,
you might need to remove one of these adapters to make an
interrupt available to the PCI adapter that you want to
install.
If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have the system
serviced.
